Chalet in Dents Blanches
The existing chalet features a traditional swiss ‘Strickbau’ timber structure that sits on top of a stone built basement. The client brief was to open up the introverted structure to the amazing mountain views and celebrate the existing timber structure instead of introducing a completely new envelope.
The solid walls that face the view are opened up by introducing steel spacers and a glazed facade is set behind it. The glazed facade is openable connecting the living space with the balcony. The roof features silver state of art potovoltaic shingles that create a dialogue between the local natural stone tile geometry and solar harvesting.
A central fireplace creates a new focal point in the middle living for the client and his family to gather around. The rest of the ground level features an open kitchen with a dining area. The basement contains flexible guestrooms with living area with independent access, wine cellar and a wellness area. The first floor is the client’s masterbedroom with ensuite bathroom and a work area. The provacy can be controlled by foldable timber shutters behind the full height glass facade.
